Plane

The quickest way to get to Novi Sad is by plane. Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (IATA: BEG) has connections to almost every capital in Europe and few direct flights to long-haul destinations, such as New York and Beijing. It is just 75 km south of Novi Sad (one hour drive), and is the home base of Air Serbia (IATA: JU), which flies to over 70 destinations worldwide.

Car

Serbia is located on Pan-European Corridor 10 which is the shortest route between central/western and southernmost Europe. It runs through eight countries: Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Greece. The European route E75 passes by Novi Sad and meets the routes E70 in Belgrade and E80 in Niš.

How to Reach Novi Sad from:

HUNGARY

Use the E75 highway (M5 in Hungary, A1 in Serbia). After crossing the border at Horgoš – Röszke, you will pass by Subotica. Novi Sad is about 1 hour drive from the border. Optionally, at the intersection of Ruma you can take the M21 road over Fruska Gora. The total duration of the journey is about 1.5 hours.

SLOVENIA and CROATIA

Use the E70 highway, when coming from Ljubljana or Zagreb (A3 in Croatia and Serbia). You will enter Serbia at the Batrovci – Bajakovo border crossing. From there it takes 1 hour to Belgrade, and 1 hour more to Novi Sad by E75 highway.

ROMANIA

From Timisoara, choose one of the following ROUTES

SOUTH (Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey....)

Take the shortest way to the E 80 or E75 highways, follow the road to Niš, and continue via E75 to Novi Sad, through Belgrade. From Niš it takes about 3 hour to Novi Sad.

 Train

Traveling by train in Serbia is the slowest and most unpredictable. The state of the railroads is pretty bad, and in recent years intensive revitalization and restoration works have been under the way. That's why changes in time table, trains routes and length of travel are frequent. So before you decide to travel to Novi Sad by train check the current status of the railroad traffic on the following page: http://serbianrailways.com/

Currently (May 2019) two daily trains operates between Budapest and Novi Sad.


 Bus

Visa Regime

Serbia has one of the most liberal visa regimes. However, before travelling to the Republic of Serbia, please check here whether you need a visa. Visa applications should be submitted to the Embassy or Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia abroad

General visa requirements:

  1. Valid passport (passport must be valid at least 90 days from issue date of visa)
  2. Letter of invitation:
    • for a private visit – invitation letter certified by the relevant authority of the Republic of Serbia
    • for a business visit – invitation letter by a company in Serbia;
    • for a tourist trip – a proof of payment for the trip issued by a travel agency (voucher or other type of payment receipt);
  3. Completed visa Application Form: (PDF) ;
  4. Photo (size 3.5x4.5cm);
  5. Return ticket or Itinerary (copy of Driving License and Insurance if you travel by car);
  6. Proof of sufficient funds for staying in Serbia;
  7. Health insurance
  8. Visa fee
