The division was founded in 1968 and has since been continuously active. In the period from 1971. to 2004. Division participated in the organization or organized the Yugoslav Symposia on Electrochemistry, the national two-year electrochemists gatherings. The last, 16th symposium, under the name of the Symposium on Electrochemistry of Serbia and Montenegro, was held in Kotor from 1-3 June 2004.
In the following years, the Electrochemical Division initiated and largely contributed to the establishment and organization of the Regional Symposium on Electrochemistry - South East Europe: RSE-SEE. The first Symposium was held in 2008 in Croatia, the second was organized by the Electrochemical Division of the Serbian Chemical Society in 2010 in Belgrade. After that, there were meetings in Romania in 2012, Slovenia in 2013, Bulgaria in 2015 and Hungary in 2017 and Split, Croatia in 2019. Next, eight in a row, will be held in 2021 in Austria. Today, the symposium gathers electrochemists from more than 15 countries in the region
The Division organized more than a hundred lectures of renowned scientists from the country and the world, members of the Division participated in numerous scientific meetings around the world, and as a result of these activities Serbia and Belgrade were to host the 71st annual meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry - 71st Annual ISE Meeting, 30 August - 4 September, 2020. Unfortunately due to the corona virus pandemic the meeting was canceled and turned into an OnLine conference held at the same time.
The Division was the initiator of the proclamation of 2020 as the Year of Electrochemistry in Serbia, and the main actor in its celebration, as well as one of the participants in the science promotion project: Meet Electrochemistry, within which two cycles of lectures were held and the exhibition Meet Electrochemistry through the Belgrade School of Electrochemistry was organized.
